Rotation

Priority List

Lightning sorcerer’s use a priority based system rather than a set rotation which really allows for a higher skill ceiling. Players that are more aware and adapt quickly to situations will find themselves able to put out more DPS on a lightning sorcerer. The ability priority list is as follows.

Thundering Blast
Crushing Darkness
Lightning Flash
Shock (w/ Crushing Darkness on target)
Chain Lightning
Lightning Bolt
Shock
Force Slow

Note that unprocced Shock and Force Slow should only be used if you need to DPS while moving. Using Force Slow will be a rare occurrence as it will only be used if you are moving and shock is already on cooldown.

Opening Rotation

Precast Force Speed -> Precast Crushing Darkness -> Polarity Shift -> Affliction -> Adrenal + Unlimited Power + Recklessness -> Thundering Blast -> Chain Lightning -> Lightning Flash -> Shock -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Thundering Blast -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Crushing Darkness -> Chain Lightning -> Lightning Flash -> Shock -> Thundering Blast -> Chain Lightning

Modified Opening for 4 instant Lightning Bolt Procs

Precast Force Speed -> Precast Force Barrier -> Precast Crushing Darkness -> Polarity Shift -> Affliction -> Adrenal + Unlimited Power + Recklessness -> Thundering Blast -> Chain Lightning -> Lightning Flash -> Shock -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> (Force Speed) Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Thundering Blast -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Crushing Darkness -> Chain Lightning -> Lightning Flash -> Shock

AOE Rotation

Force Storm -> Chain Lightning -> Force Storm -> Force Storm

Every third Force Storm will proc

Hybrid Single Target/AOE Rotation

Affliction -> Thundering Blast -> Chain Lightning -> Force Storm -> Force Storm -> Thundering Blast -> Chain Lightning

2 Target Rotation

Precast Crushing Darkness -> Polarity Shift -> Affliction -> Affliction -> Adrenal + Unlimited Power + Recklessness -> Thundering Blast -> Chain Lightning -> Lightning Flash -> Shock -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Lightning Bolt -> Thundering Blast -> Chain Lightning

A very useful rotation for fights involving 2 targets (Firebrand & Stormcaller, Jarg & Sorno, Zorn & Toth, etc.). Jarg & Sorno is a great fight to practice this as it is easy to execute when both are standing side by side. Every Chain Lightning will refresh Affliction on both targets although you may need to refresh Affliction a couple times due to Sorno jumping up top. The same can be done with Zorn & Toth although it is much harder to keep Affliction up on both targets. To do this, I would normally focus target Toth so I can see at a glance if he still has Affliction up. You will need to constantly switch targets to refresh Affliction with either Crushing Darkness or Chain Lightning. Because the cooldowns for the abilities may not always line up (especially with Crushing Darkness having a cooldown time close to the amount of time Affliction stays on a target), Affliction may fall off requiring you to recast it. One way to make this a little easier is to cast Affliction on the secondary target without the effects of Polarity Shift allowing for a slightly longer window to refresh it. You can also delay your procced Chain Lightning up til before your next Thundering Blast to refresh Affliction at the last possible moment. Remember to keep the Force debuff from Crushing Darkness applied on both targets.
